The Marriot-owned JW Steakhouses are new to the UK, but are already an
established global brand with restaurants in the USA, Canada and
Dubai. Marriott have chosen their prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel
on London's Park Lane for their first UK restaurant, and as part of
the refurbishment of the space needed a chalkboard artist who would
have the expertise necessary to complement the high standards of both
their brand and menus. After an initial contact via this website, and
a preliminary meeting to discuss designs, Jamie was chosen to
complete the menu board in the restaurant.
Covering the whole rear wall of the steakhouse, this is the largest and one of
the most detailed pieces Jamie has yet completed. The board measures
a massive 20 metres x 2 metres and sits perfectly within the dining
space. Though at a glance it looks simple, this is deceptive: all the
steaks listed are accompanied by clear, expertly drawn illustrations
and the script had to be precise and clear enough to be read from any
part of the restaurant.
Any board on this scale is a difficult and intricate job, but in
monochrome the illustrations must be of particularly high quality.
The fact that many reviews and blogs of the JW Steakhouse are
including photographs of the menu board show just what an impact it
is having and how it fits so well within the restaurant that it is
being used as an illustration for it.

Well it appears Spring has finally sprung-ish, and Jamie has been hard at work giving various pubs and restaurants their first spruce up of 2010 for their signage. With big events like the World Cup coming up work has been coming in thick and fast for updates ready for the summer of sport.
